Must read

Arise News has been thrown into mourning following the shocking death of one of its promising journalists, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, who was killed during a violent robbery attack at her residence.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday in Katampe, Abuja, has left colleagues, friends, and viewers devastated as tributes continue to pour in for the late broadcaster.

In a statement issued by the station’s management, Maduagwu was remembered as a passionate news anchor whose work connected deeply with audiences.

“Somtochukwu was more than a colleague; she was a vibrant voice in Nigerian journalism. Her passing is an irreparable loss to both our newsroom and the wider media community,” the statement read.

The management also urged security authorities to carry out a thorough investigation to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

“We demand swift action from the Nigeria Police to identify, arrest, and prosecute the culprits behind this heinous act,” the station added.

Colleagues of the late journalist described her as dedicated, warm, and full of energy. One staff member, who spoke under anonymity, said: “She always came to work with a smile, ready to give her best. It’s hard to imagine the newsroom without her presence.”

Maduagwu, fondly known as “Sommie” among her peers, worked as a news anchor, reporter, and producer at Arise News.

Her colleagues say she played a vital role in shaping the channel’s coverage and was admired for her professionalism.

Family members of the deceased, including her parents and siblings, are said to be in deep grief, while funeral arrangements are expected to be made public in the coming days.

The tragic incident has once again raised concerns about the growing insecurity in the nation’s capital and its impact on residents.
