Must read

Stakeholders in Maitsani, Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State, have reportedly reached a peace agreement with bandit leaders.

The development was disclosed in a post on X by Bakatsine on Monday.

According to him, one of the bandit leaders alleged that similar promises made during peace efforts in Safana Local Government were not fully honoured.

The bandit reportedly claimed that only small ransoms were paid for hostages in Safana despite assurances of wider concessions.

Bakatsine wrote: “Yesterday in Maitsani, Dutsin-Ma LGA, Katsina State, stakeholders struck a peace deal with bandit leaders.

“One bandit alleged that in Safana LGA, promised releases weren’t honored & only small ransoms were paid for hostages. Explosive claims that demands urgent govt response.”

Katsina, one of the states worst hit by banditry in the Northwest, has recorded several rounds of peace initiatives between local communities and armed groups.
