Kwankwaso sets conditions for return to APC

Must read

Former Kano State Governor and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, may be on his way back to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after formally presenting conditions for his defection.

As reported by Politcs Nigeria, sources confirmed that Kwankwaso submitted a letter to APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, detailing terms for his return to the ruling party.

Party insiders disclosed that the letter was handed in at the national secretariat in Abuja, a move seen as a deliberate bypass of the Kano State chapter due to his long-standing rift with its leadership.

A senior official at the APC headquarters revealed that discussions have reached an advanced stage after Kwankwaso’s recent meeting with the presidency.

“As a party, we will abide by whatever decision the leaders feel is in the interest of the party,” the source said.

Kwankwaso, who was instrumental in NNPP’s 2023 electoral triumph in Kano, is said to be seeking strong assurances before rejoining APC. His conditions reportedly include securing the governorship ticket for Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in the next election and clinching a prominent role in a future APC-led government.

“We are aware of the letter he submitted but it’s not something we can discuss now. If he is coming, we have nothing against that — he is welcome,” a Kano APC source said. “From what we know, he submitted it in Abuja, not in Kano. Whatever the case, once everything is finalised, it will be made public.”

Although Kwankwaso’s camp remains cautious, those close to Governor Yusuf said the Kano governor is ready to move with his mentor.

“Our governor has no objection at all,” an insider noted. “He is only waiting for the green light from his mentor.”
