Must read

Former Oyo State governor, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has been crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The traditional rites were performed on Friday at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South-East Local Government, after he had earlier received the Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba.

Governor Seyi Makinde is billed to formally hand him the staff and instruments of office at Mapo Hall in another stage of the coronation.

The governor, who was on vacation, returned on Thursday to witness the event in person. Former Ogun governor, Gbenga Daniel, and other dignitaries were also present as security was heavily deployed around the venue.

Ladoja’s enthronement follows the passing of his predecessor, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan, who died on July 7, 2025.

Residents and indigenes of Ibadan trooped out to celebrate the new monarch, describing the ceremony as historic.
