A 30-year-old man, Mutawakilu Ibrahim, has been arrested by the Kano State Police Command for allegedly killing his grandparents during a quarrel over food at their residence.
The command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the incident happened on Thursday around 9:30 am and was immediately reported at the Dala Divisional Police Headquarters.
Ibrahim, suspected to have been under the influence of drugs, was said to have used a knife to stab his grandfather, Muhammad Dansokoto, 75, and grandmother, Hadiza Tasidi, 65, multiple times during the altercation.
The victims were taken to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, but were confirmed dead on arrival by doctors.
Their bodies were later released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Homicide Section, for discreet investigation.
“The suspect will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” SP Kiyawa said.
