The Kano State Joint Task Force Committee on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has arrested 78 individuals in a sweeping crackdown on drug abuse and street thuggery.
The four-day operation, carried out in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), targeted several notorious hotspots across the state.
According to the NDLEA’s Kano Command, the raids were part of renewed efforts to protect young people from the rising threat of drug addiction and violent gang activities.
The operation covered neighbourhoods and flashpoints such as Mariri Yan’itace, Fagge, Badawa, Kasuwar Rimi, Masallacin Idi, Yankaba, Hotoro Flyover, Kofar Mata, Rijiyar Zaki and Jakara. Raids were also conducted around Rumfa College, Dan’agundi Graveyard, and Kofar Wambai.
Security operatives confiscated a variety of illicit drugs including cannabis sativa, Diazepam, Exol-5, Pregabalin, rubber solution, and a locally abused substance known as “Suck and Die.”
Task force chairman, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, described the operation as a reflection of Kano’s strong resolve to confront social vices.
“This mission is about saving our young people and restoring order in our communities,” he said. “We will not relent until those fueling drug abuse and violence are brought to justice.”
Also speaking, NDLEA Kano Commander, ACGN A.I. Ahmad, praised the professionalism of his officers and highlighted the critical role of collaboration.
He further acknowledged the backing of the Kano State Government, noting that sustained support from authorities and the community remains essential.
“The public must understand that the fight against drugs cannot be won by security agencies alone,” Ahmad said.
“Residents need to stay vigilant, share intelligence, and work with us to curb this menace.”
The NDLEA confirmed that investigations into the arrested suspects are ongoing. Authorities assured that those found guilty will face prosecution, while rehabilitation programs are being strengthened to tackle the root causes of drug abuse in the state.
