Four killed as soldiers, robbers battle on Jos–Bauchi highway

Must read

Troops on routine patrol have killed four suspected armed robbers during a gun battle along the Jos–Bauchi highway, an operation that has restored safety to the troubled route.

Security sources confirmed that the operation was launched after credible intelligence revealed the movement of criminals believed to be behind a series of recent highway robberies.

Acting on the tip-off, soldiers quickly mobilised to the location.

Upon arrival, the suspects reportedly opened fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunshots.

Military officials said the troops overpowered the gang, neutralising four members and recovering arms and ammunition at the scene.

A senior security officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, explained that the timely intervention of the soldiers prevented further attacks on innocent travellers.

“Their swift action not only neutralised the threat but also reassured commuters that the highway is safe again,” the officer said.

Residents and motorists have since expressed relief over the development.

According to a local driver, the military’s presence has reduced tension in the area.

“We now feel safer using this road because the soldiers responded quickly,” he noted.

The Jos–Bauchi highway has long been a target for armed gangs who ambush travellers, making the latest operation a significant boost to security efforts in the region.
