Trump blasts UN, says organisation fails to promote peace

Must read

United States President Donald Trump has sharply criticised the United Nations, accusing the world body of failing to fulfil its central mission of promoting peace and stability.

Speaking during his address to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Trump argued that despite its vast resources and influence, the organisation has fallen short in addressing conflicts across the globe.

He claimed that during his previous efforts to end wars, the UN “did not even try to help,” dismissing the body as more focused on issuing statements than delivering results.

“The United Nations has enormous potential, but it has not come close to meeting it,” Trump told delegates, questioning the institution’s effectiveness in resolving crises.

He went further to mock the organisation’s operations, pointing out what he described as symbolic failures such as malfunctioning equipment and a lack of efficiency.

The president’s remarks underscored his long-standing scepticism toward multilateral institutions.

During his speech, he insisted that global peace could only be achieved through direct leadership and decisive action, not what he called “empty resolutions.”

Trump’s criticism comes at a time of heightened conflict in regions such as Ukraine, Gaza, and parts of Africa, where the UN has faced growing scrutiny over its ability to respond effectively.

His comments are expected to fuel debate over the relevance of the UN and the role of the United States within it.

While Trump’s speech drew applause from his supporters at home, some diplomats privately expressed concern that undermining the UN could weaken international cooperation at a time when unity is most needed.

“The United Nations must prove its worth,” Trump declared. “If it cannot work for peace, then what purpose does it serve?”
