Former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, has lamented the spate of killings of security operatives across the country.
He warned that Nigeria cannot continue to lose its men in uniform without accountability.
Obi, in a post on Tuesday, on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle sighted by AFRIPOST, described the recurring deaths of soldiers, police officers, civil defence personnel and vigilante members as a tragedy that must spur urgent action.
He wrote, “Over the past weeks, the country has been thrown into mourning yet again with the reported tragic killings of our security personnel… Our men and women in uniform have paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, dedicating their lives to the safety and stability of our dear nation.”
The LP standard-bearer called on leaders to equip and motivate security operatives, stressing that security should be treated as the foundation of governance.
He said, “These recurring killings should serve as a wake up call to us leaders to better equip and motivate our security operatives… not our security operatives and definitely not their families.”
Obi further urged government to ensure that families of fallen heroes are adequately compensated and supported, noting that abandoning them amounts to injustice.
He added, “Nigeria cannot continue to bury our men in uniform and leave their families abandoned… It is not charity, it is justice for those who laid down their lives so the rest of us can live.”
