Natasha vows not to apologise over suspension

Must read

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) on Tuesday resumed at the Senate after her office was unsealed by officials of the Sergeant-at-Arms.

The lawmaker, who spoke with reporters at the National Assembly, declared that she would not tender any apology, stressing that her suspension was unjust.

“I am going to be quite limited with what I’ll say. In the weeks to come, I will have much to say,” she told reporters.

She explained that she had not been officially informed of any conditions attached to her return but noted concerns over reports that a motion might be raised compelling her to apologise.

“So, I am actually worried as to what apology they expect from me. You can’t apologize for an injustice,” she said.

Akpoti-Uduaghan expressed gratitude to her constituents, family, and colleagues for their support during her ordeal, saying her experience underscored the importance of defending democratic institutions.

“In everything, it just shows that sometimes it’s good to put the institutions to test. We can’t be cowed in the face of injustice. No one is more Nigerian than us,” she said.

The senator urged Nigerians to remain hopeful despite the country’s challenges, insisting there was “light at the end of the tunnel.”
