A police inspector has been gunned down by armed criminals who stormed a checkpoint, killed him in cold blood, and fled with his rifle, an incident that has unsettled security personnel and residents alike.
The shocking attack has been described by police authorities as a cowardly act, with assurances that those behind it will be tracked down and brought to justice.
The killing happened late Sunday night in Tella, Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State, where Inspector Suleiman Dala of the 40 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Jalingo, was on duty.
Responding officers who arrived at the scene evacuated the remains of the slain inspector to the General Hospital in Tella after documenting evidence from the site of the attack.
Witnesses disclosed that the gunmen struck suddenly and disappeared with the officer’s weapon.
“We are leaving no stone unturned in hunting down the perpetrators,” a senior police officer said.
“This is not just an attack on our colleague but on the law itself, and justice must be served.”
The command extended condolences to the bereaved family and colleagues of the late officer, pledging that his killers would not escape accountability.
