Senator Natasha Akpoti has made a dramatic return to the National Assembly complex in Abuja
She was accompanied by a crowd of supporters, as she moved to reclaim her seat following the expiration of her six-month suspension.
Her arrival came shortly after she appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja, where she is standing trial on alleged defamation of Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello.
The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/195/2025, is being prosecuted under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
Prosecutors alleged that she publicly accused Akpabio of directing Bello to orchestrate her assassination in Kogi State.
Earlier in the day, her office, which had remained sealed since March 6 when the suspension took effect, was reopened by the Deputy Director, Sergeant-at-Arms of the National Assembly, Alabi Adedeji.
Excited supporters of the senator thronged the complex to welcome her, chanting solidarity songs as she walked into the building.
It was, however, unclear if she would be allowed immediate access to the chamber, as plenary, earlier slated to resume yesterday, has now been postponed by two weeks.
