He spent our money, must account – Briggs slams Ibas

Must read

Human rights activist Annkio Briggs has accused the former sole administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, of mismanaging state funds during his brief stay in office.

Briggs made the claim while speaking on Sunday Politics, a Channels Television programme, where she stressed that Ibas must explain how public resources were used under his watch.

According to her, the people of Rivers State deserve transparency. “He did not come here as a private citizen.

“He was placed in charge of our resources, and every kobo spent belongs to the people. That is why he must give an account,” Briggs insisted.

She expressed concern that Ibas’s six-month administration left more questions than answers regarding the use of state funds.

“You cannot simply oversee a state for half a year, manage all its funds, and then leave without any form of accountability. That is not justice, and it certainly is not fairness,” she said.

The activist also pushed back against criticism of her stance, noting that Rivers’ people were justified in demanding answers.

“When we say it is our money, we mean it. These are public funds, and nobody should treat them as personal resources,” Briggs emphasized.

Her comments come amid growing debates over the stewardship of interim administrators in Nigerian states and calls for stronger checks on public office holders after their tenure.
