Ogun moves to jail saw miller caught battering wife in viral video

Must read

The Ogun State Government has condemned the viral video of a popular saw miller, Fatai Quadri, of Ilese-Ijebu in Ijebu North East Local Government Area, assaulting his wife, vowing that justice would be done.

The state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), described the act as reprehensible and assured that the suspect, now in custody, would be arraigned on Monday.

Police Commissioner, Lanre Ogunlowo, confirmed yesterday that Quadri had been arrested and was under investigation.

In the disturbing video, the suspect was seen repeatedly striking his wife on the head and neck, while the victim cried out in Yoruba, “Fatai ma pa mi,” meaning “Fatai, please don’t kill me.”

Quadri was said to be notorious for beating his wife, prompting a neighbour to secretly record the assault on September 15, 2025.

Mr Ogungbade said: “The government is aware of the viral video and we condemn it in its totality. The suspect is in police custody already. The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo has been very proactive concerning it. The matter is being transferred to the Gender Unit. He will be arraigned in Court on Monday.”

He stressed that the administration has always warned against criminal acts, especially gender-based violence, noting that the case would further demonstrate its zero tolerance posture.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, also vowed that the matter would not be swept under the carpet.

She said: “The government is not happy with such criminal acts; our position has always been zero tolerance to gender-based violence. Definitely, the suspect will account for his misdeeds, justice will be served I am assuring the residents of the state.

“Already, he has been picked up by the police and should be taking to court on Monday, the ministry officials will be there to lend our support and ensure that justice is served.”
