Bandits kidnap four chinese workers in Kogi

Must read

Gunmen struck again in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting four Chinese nationals during a raid on a mining site.

The incident, which happened on Saturday, also left a soldier dead and a mobile policeman wounded.

Witnesses said the assailants laid siege to the area before targeting the expatriates.

This latest attack comes less than two weeks after a separate assault in the same council claimed the lives of three policemen and two local vigilante members.

Residents say the repeated violence has thrown the community into panic.

A villager who spoke under anonymity expressed frustration, saying the people no longer feel safe in their homes or on their farms.

“We are under siege. Bandits are taking over, and our lives mean nothing to them. The government must act before more blood is spilled,” he lamented.

Security operatives were said to have engaged the attackers, but the criminals overpowered them before fleeing with the kidnapped Chinese workers.

The injured policeman is reportedly receiving treatment at a nearby medical facility.

Community leaders are now urging authorities to increase surveillance in the region to prevent further raids.

“These attacks are becoming routine, and our people feel abandoned. If urgent steps are not taken, we fear more tragedies will occur,” another resident told our correspondent.

Kogi State has witnessed a rising wave of violent crimes in recent months, with mining sites and highways becoming frequent targets for armed groups.
