Kwankwaso states conditions for possible return to APC

Must read

Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has said his party will only consider rejoining the All Progressives Congress (APC) if certain conditions are met.

Speaking on Friday, Kwankwaso stressed that the NNPP would not rush into any alliance without securing clear benefits for its members and structures across the country.

According to him, any discussion of a return to the ruling party must go beyond promises and focus on concrete guarantees.

“Our major concern is what the NNPP stands to gain in such an arrangement. Politics is about interests, and our interest is to protect our movement, our structures, and the millions of Nigerians who believe in us,” Kwankwaso said.

He warned that his party would not allow itself to be used and abandoned by bigger political actors. He also emphasized that the Kwankwasiyya movement, his loyal political base, must be given recognition in any merger or coalition talks.

The former Defence Minister recalled the sacrifices made by him and his allies during the formation of the APC in 2013, adding that many of them faced political persecution but later received little appreciation.

He maintained that dignity and respect would form part of his conditions before accepting to return.

Political analysts believe Kwankwaso’s stance signals a strategic move ahead of the 2027 general elections, where alliances are expected to play a critical role in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape.

At the time of filing this report, the APC leadership has yet to issue an official response to Kwankwaso’s position.
