The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the recovery of 18 stolen vehicles, including two trucks, in a major crackdown on auto theft and robbery in Abuja.

The Commissioner of Police, Ajao Sunday Adewale, made the disclosure while briefing journalists at the command headquarters on Friday.

He explained that nine suspects linked to the stolen vehicles were already in custody and would be facing charges in court soon.

According to him, the operation also led to the recovery of six stolen truck tyres.

“This breakthrough demonstrates our commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring stolen assets are returned to their rightful owners,” Adewale stated.

In a related operation, detectives from the Anti-One-Chance Unit and the Command’s Surveillance Team apprehended three notorious “one-chance” operators who had been terrorising unsuspecting commuters in the capital city.

The suspects were identified as Ashafa Ali, Mohammed Lamido Jabir, and Ahmed Mohammed. Police investigations revealed that on April 30, the gang lured a passenger, Kelvin Okorie, into their vehicle at Lugbe, where he was violently attacked.

During the robbery, Okorie was dispossessed of N80,000 in cash, two mobile phones, and other valuables.

His ATM card was also stolen and used to siphon N2.7 million from his bank account through multiple POS transactions.

Describing the arrest, CP Adewale said, “Our team pursued the case with painstaking investigation, and their effort has finally paid off.

These criminals will be prosecuted to serve as a warning to others who think they can operate with impunity in the FCT.”

He further reassured residents that the command had intensified patrols and surveillance across the city to curb similar crimes.

“We are determined to make Abuja a hostile environment for criminals and a safe place for law-abiding citizens,” he added.

The police boss also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly, emphasising that community support plays a critical role in combating crime.
