A massive explosion on Saturday jolted the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) factory in Kaduna, leaving one person dead and several others injured.
The blast occurred at the corporation’s facility located in the Kakuri Industrial Layout, sending shockwaves through parts of the metropolis.
Residents in Chikun and Kaduna South Local Government Areas reported hearing the loud bang from several kilometres away.
Eyewitnesses described the incident as terrifying.
“The ground shook violently, and everyone ran out of their homes thinking it was an earthquake,” said a resident who lives near the factory.
Emergency sources confirmed that one casualty was recorded, while multiple people sustained injuries of varying degrees.
The injured victims were quickly transported to nearby hospitals, including the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, for urgent medical attention.
Although the cause of the explosion remains unclear, residents noted that the tremor was strong enough to rattle windows and create panic across neighbouring communities.
Security operatives and emergency responders have since cordoned off the area to prevent further casualties.
Authorities are expected to begin a full-scale investigation to determine what triggered the blast and to evaluate the extent of structural damage within the DICON facility.
As of the time of filing this report, neither DICON nor government officials had released an official statement on the incident.
