Sowore leaks audio of Wike allegedly threatening to kill INEC officials

Must read

Activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has intensified his clash with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, by releasing an audio recording in which Wike is allegedly heard threatening to kill Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials during a by-election in Rivers State back in 2016.

Sowore, who shared the clip on his official X (formerly Twitter) page on Friday morning, accused Wike of bribing electoral officers and intimidating them with violence to secure victory at the polls.

He described the minister as a “killer, drunkard, land thief and criminal” who has evaded accountability for years.

“The crazy, killer drunkard-murderer-land thief FCT Minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, is caught on tape here threatening to kill INEC officials he bribed to rig a by-election for him in 2016,” Sowore wrote in his post, attaching the audio file.

According to the activist, the leaked audio shows Wike’s long-standing involvement in electoral malpractice and political intimidation in Rivers State.

Sowore further alleged that the minister’s recent remarks against him were part of a broader pattern of threats, claiming Wike was acting “on behalf of President Bola Tinubu” to silence dissenting voices.

“This man has killed many, stolen so much, and gotten away with too many crimes,” Sowore added.

AFRIPOST reports that the development marks a dramatic escalation in the ongoing war of words between the two men since yesterday evening.

Yesterday, Wike had criticised Sowore for labelling President Tinubu a criminal, warning that such comments could have serious consequences.

Meanwhile, as of the time of filing this report, Wike has not publicly responded to the leaked audio, and the authenticity of the recording has yet to be independently verified.

The allegations, however, are already fueling heated debate online, with many Nigerians demanding a formal probe into the matter.
