ADC knocks Fubara over absence after suspension lift

Must read

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State has strongly criticised Governor Siminalayi Fubara for what it described as a “betrayal of trust” after thousands of his supporters were left stranded at the Government House on Thursday.

In a statement reacting to the incident, Rivers ADC Chairman, Chief Amb. Leader Sampson, accused Fubara of abandoning those who stood by him during the crisis.

“By failing to show up, Governor Fubara has disappointed the very people who sacrificed for him,” Sampson said. “It is a clear sign of disregard, influenced by external political forces.”

He argued that the incident reflects poorly on the governor’s leadership and warned that it could have long-term political consequences.

According to him, the ADC represents a more reliable platform for Fubara’s supporters to safeguard their political future.

“We urge all members of the Simplified Family to rethink their loyalty. The ADC will never treat you as expendable pawns,” Sampson declared.

“Our party stands with the people and offers a genuine path to progress and stability in Rivers State.”

He further encouraged residents to rally behind the ADC in order to “build a brighter future where justice, opportunity, and the people’s voices are respected.”

The governor’s loyalists, popularly called the Simplified Family, had gathered in large numbers expecting him to officially resume duty following the lifting of his suspension by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday.

President Tinubu had restored Fubara, his deputy, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to office after months of political uncertainty triggered by the emergency rule declared in the state.

While lawmakers quickly returned to legislative sessions, the governor was nowhere to be seen, a development that heightened tension across Port Harcourt and beyond.

After waiting for hours without any communication from the governor’s camp, many supporters, including immediate past local government chairmen, left the Government House in anger and frustration.

The governor has yet to publicly respond to the criticisms or explain his absence, leaving many questions unanswered among his followers.
