Police disown viral recruitment notice circulating online

Must read

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has distanced itself from a recruitment advert making the rounds on social media, warning Nigerians that the document is fraudulent and did not originate from its management.

The NPF swiftly debunked the publication on Thursday through its verified X (formerly Twitter) account, where it stamped “FAKE” boldly across the viral notice.

The Force urged the public to disregard the content, describing it as a deliberate attempt to mislead Nigerians.

The fake publication, which has been shared widely, was titled “Nigeria Police Force Recruitment Exercise 2025” and claimed that recruitment would begin on September 22, 2025.

It invited applications from SSCE, OND, HND, and B.Sc. holders, outlining supposed requirements and procedures for interested candidates.

According to the misleading notice, applicants were required to be Nigerian citizens with valid National Identification Numbers, fall within certain age brackets depending on their qualifications, and meet specific height standards.

It also listed physical fitness, moral conduct, and non-membership of secret cults as mandatory conditions for eligibility.

The document went further to detail a fake application procedure, directing prospective applicants to an alleged recruitment portal from September 23.

It asked candidates to submit personal data, scanned academic credentials, and supporting documents such as birth certificates and guarantors’ declarations.

The debunking comes weeks after the Police Service Commission (PSC) issued a similar caution.

On August 30, PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani dismissed another online publication about the supposed commencement of the 2025 recruitment process, branding it “fictitious and diversionary.”

Ani reiterated that the Commission has not approved or advertised any recruitment for the year.

He added: “Young Nigerians interested in joining the Force must be patient and only follow verified announcements. These fake notices are created to deceive unsuspecting applicants.”

Authorities have therefore advised Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify all information relating to police recruitment through official communication channels, including the websites and social media pages of the NPF and the PSC.
