The Lagos State Government has launched an investigation into a viral video showing some students allegedly engaging in smoking and drinking inside a dormitory.
According to a statement on X sighted by AFRIPOST and signed by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, the students were believed to be from Excel College, Ejigbo.
The government described the act as disturbing and a violation of the values and standards expected in the state’s schools.
Alli-Balogun said the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA) had dispatched a monitoring and investigation team to authenticate the video, identify the students involved, and assess the role of the school authorities.
He added that preliminary engagements with the school have commenced, stressing that any institution found culpable would face sanctions in line with state education policies.
“The safety, well-being, and moral values of all students remain paramount to the Lagos State Government. We are committed to ensuring that all learning environments are safe, disciplined, and conducive to the academic and moral growth of every learner,” he said.
