Aggrieved members of the Rivers State Sports Council have stormed the entrance of the Government House in Port Harcourt in protest over unpaid award entitlements.
The demonstrators, made up of coaches and officials, accused the state government of neglecting to pay allowances due to them for their participation in the 2025 Ogun Sports Festival.
The protesters, who carried placards with different inscriptions, demanded immediate settlement of the outstanding payments.
It was learnt that their anger was directed at the sole administration of Ibokette Ibas, whom they accused of failing to release the funds.
The festival, tagged Gateway Games, Ogun 2024, was held between May 16 and May 30, 2025.
Ibas is expected to leave office on Thursday as his six-month tenure, approved by President Bola Tinubu in March, winds down.
