The Lagos State Police Command has exonerated Pastor Paul Adefarasin of House on the Rock Church after a viral video sparked controversy over his alleged possession of a firearm.
In the widely circulated footage, the senior pastor was seen holding what many believed to be a gun during a church service, triggering public debates and concerns.
Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that Adefarasin personally visited the command headquarters in Ikeja for questioning following the online backlash.
“Pastor Adefarasin presented himself to the police voluntarily, where he was thoroughly questioned and provided a statement regarding the incident,” Adebisi explained.
The police investigation revealed that the object in the pastor’s hand was not a firearm but an electroshock device.
According to the command, it was confirmed to be a stun gun, which is a non-lethal security tool.
“After careful scrutiny and due process, it was determined that the device was not a live firearm. There is therefore no basis for criminal proceedings,” the statement further noted.
With the clarification, the police have officially closed the matter, stating that there was no violation of the law.
Adebisi stressed that the command will continue to prioritise public safety while maintaining transparency in handling sensitive cases.
“We remain committed to upholding the law and ensuring that the public receives accurate information on matters of security,” she added.
The incident, which initially caused widespread concern, has now been put to rest, with authorities assuring the public that no crime was committed.
