The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results, with more than half of the candidates recording credits in the two key subjects, English Language and Mathematics.
Registrar of the Council, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, made the announcement on Wednesday during a briefing at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
He explained that 60.26 per cent of candidates who took the examination secured five credits and above, including English and Mathematics.
In his words, “A total of 818,492 candidates met the benchmark of five credits with English and Mathematics, showing the performance level of this year’s examination.”
The Registrar further disclosed that when English and Mathematics were excluded, 1,144,496 candidates earned five credits and above. This represents 84.26 per cent of the students who sat for the exams.
Out of 1,367,210 registered candidates, 1,358,339 eventually sat for the examinations. Male candidates totalled 680,292, while females numbered 678,047, reflecting a near-equal gender participation.
AFRIPOST reports that the latest results highlight steady participation levels across the country with continued struggles of many students in meeting credit requirements in English and Mathematics, two subjects considered critical for admission into higher institutions.
