The Adamawa State Police Command has successfully recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) discovered in the Mubi Zone, averting what could have been a major disaster.
Eyewitnesses said the device, later identified as an unexploded ordnance projectile, was spotted at a local scrap garage during routine loading activities.
The Chairman of the Scrap Scavengers Association in Mubi, Boda Abdullahi, confirmed the find, explaining that members of the task force brought the object to his attention before alerting the authorities.
“We knew it was not an ordinary piece of scrap,” Abdullahi said. “Our members acted quickly by contacting the police, and that timely response saved lives.”
Following the alert, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from the police command arrived at the scene.
Security operatives confirmed the object’s nature, secured the area, and evacuated the device for controlled detonation.
The police later declared the community safe and reassured residents that there was no further threat in the area.
Meanwhile, authorities have since urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious items or movements within their communities.
“This incident reminds us that public safety is a shared responsibility,” a security source told our correspondent. “When people report strange objects on time, the risk of tragedy is reduced.”
