Armed bandits on Monday morning invaded Gidan Turbe village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, abducting about 40 worshippers during dawn prayers.
The incident, which left the community in shock, was disclosed by a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst, Zagazola Makama, via his X handle.
Zagazola said the incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. when the attackers stormed the mosque, surrounded it, and forced the worshippers out at gunpoint before moving them into the forest around the Gohori axis.
Residents said the development has thrown the community into fear and confusion, especially as it came barely a day after reports of peace deals in parts of the North West between local leaders and armed groups.
“The bandits have no command, structure and control. You can negotiate with bandits in Katsina while they continue to strike in Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi and Kaduna State,” a local source told Zagazola.
As at press time, there was no official response from security authorities in Zamfara State.
