Bandits kill NSCDC officer in Katsina

Must read

A deadly ambush by suspected bandits has claimed the life of a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer, with four others left wounded during a violent attack along the Yantumaki–Danmusa road in Katsina State.

The incident happened late Friday evening near Dafa village, where the security operatives were reportedly on transit duty under Operation Sharan Daji when the gunmen opened fire on their patrol team.

Confirming the attack on Monday, security sources identified the slain officer as 37-year-old CCA Adamu Abdullah.

Those injured include DSC Abdullah Usman, 40, ASC Dikko Sabiu, 42, ASC Haruna Bello, 35, and CCA Kabir Dalhatu, 29.

According to eyewitness accounts, the officers were caught off guard when heavily armed attackers laid siege on their Hilux vehicle.

“The ambush was sudden and intense. The men tried to defend themselves, but one of them was shot dead instantly,” a local source disclosed.

Following the distress call, security reinforcements were immediately dispatched from Danmusa.

The injured personnel were rushed to the General Hospital in Dutsinma, where they are currently receiving treatment. Their patrol vehicle was also retrieved from the scene of the attack.

The NSCDC has yet to release an official statement on the ambush, but residents expressed growing concerns over the frequent armed assaults in the area.

“It is alarming that security operatives themselves are not spared from these attacks. It shows how emboldened these criminals have become,” said a community leader in Danmusa.

AFRIPOST reports that the attack further shows the escalating insecurity in Katsina State, a region that has witnessed repeated incidents of armed banditry despite ongoing military operations aimed at restoring peace.
