Malami breaks silence on fueling political violence in Kebbi

Must read

Former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) stalwart, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has rejected accusations linking him to the ongoing political unrest in Kebbi State.

In a statement released through his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Bello Doka, the former AGF accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of fueling violence in the state rather than addressing the root causes of insecurity.

According to Malami, the allegations were part of a calculated attempt to divert attention from the real perpetrators.

“What is happening in Kebbi is not accidental. It is being sponsored, and those behind it are now trying to rewrite the story,” Doka said on behalf of his principal.

Malami also claimed to have narrowly escaped an attack in Birnin Kebbi on September 1.

He alleged that the incident was carried out by armed thugs reportedly mobilised from the APC state headquarters.

Eyewitnesses, he said, confirmed that the attackers emerged from the ruling party’s office and returned there after the assault.

“The attempt to paint Malami as the mastermind is pure propaganda. Nigerians are aware of the truth and can see who benefits from this climate of intimidation,” Doka added.

The statement further accused Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, of orchestrating smear campaigns against Malami.

It alleged that videos exist showing the governor and some of his aides inciting supporters to embrace violence ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The Kebbi government has abandoned its duty to fight poverty and insecurity. Instead, it has reduced itself to waging a media war against one man, Abubakar Malami.

“His only ‘offence’ is that his popularity with the masses is rising,” the statement read.

Malami’s response comes after members of the Kebbi State Caucus in the National Assembly called for his arrest during a press briefing on Thursday.

The lawmakers accused the ADC chieftain of being behind the rising political tensions and unrest in the state.

However, AFRIPOST reports that the deepening political rift in Kebbi is shaping the state’s pre-election landscape, with Malami positioning himself as a strong opposition voice against the APC’s dominance.
