There was panic in Matazu town, Katsina State, on Thursday night when bandits invaded a mosque during Isha prayer, killing and injuring worshippers.
Security analyst, Bakatsine, who disclosed the incident on Friday in a post on X (formerly Twitter), and sighted by AFRIPOST, described the attack as another disturbing sign of rising insecurity in the North-West.
“ALERT: Yesterday night, bandits attacked Matazu town in Katsina State, during Isha prayer, killing & injuring worshippers. Gov’t must act urgently because the attacks on worshippers in the northwest region are becoming too frequent,” he wrote.
Details of the number of casualties were still sketchy as of press time, but residents said the assailants stormed the community in large numbers and opened fire on worshippers before escaping.
The Police in Katsina are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
