ADC reacts as INEC recognises David Mark, Aregbesola as new leaders

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has welcomed the official confirmation of its new leadership by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing the move as a major boost ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The electoral body on Wednesday updated its website, listing former Senate President David Mark as the party’s National Chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as National Secretary, effectively putting to rest weeks of speculation about the party’s leadership structure.

In a swift reaction, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, announced the development on his X handle, signalling the party’s readiness for the battles ahead.

“Game on!” Abdullahi wrote, a message that has since sparked reactions among party faithful and political observers.

Speaking exclusively on a radio programme, a senior ADC official described the INEC endorsement as a turning point.

“This recognition means we can now fully concentrate on building a winning team for 2027,” the official said. “It validates the hard work we’ve put into repositioning the ADC as a credible political force.”

The development comes months after an opposition coalition formally adopted the ADC as its platform for the next presidential and legislative elections, a strategic move analysts say could reshape the balance of power in Nigeria’s political space.

A radio political commentator, Grace Ibeh revealed that the combination of David Mark’s experience and Rauf Aregbesola’s organisational skills could make the ADC a rallying point for dissatisfied voters.

“This team could energise the opposition bloc in ways we have not seen in years,” she said.

The ADC is now expected to roll out a nationwide mobilisation and reconciliation campaign to unify its ranks, strengthen grassroots structures, and attract undecided voters before campaigns officially begin.

With the leadership issue resolved, attention will now turn to whether the party can translate this political momentum into electoral success.
