Tension as decomposed body found in car near National Assembly Abuja

Must read

The lifeless body of a man was discovered inside a parked vehicle near the National Assembly complex in Abuja, leaving workers and passersby stunned.

Police have confirmed the tragedy, which has raised concerns about security and emergency response in the area.

The deceased has been identified as 55-year-old Gaddafi Iwar, a Tiv man reportedly working as a labourer at a construction site within the National Assembly grounds.

Sources say his body was discovered in a red Peugeot 406, bearing registration number BWR-577 BF, at around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 7.

Authorities initially took the body to the National Assembly Clinic for medical verification before moving it to Asokoro General Hospital.

However, medical personnel reportedly declined to receive the body due to its advanced stage of decomposition.

Local Tiv community leaders, along with youth representatives, eventually transported the body to Gbawu Village, a border town straddling AMAC and Kuje Area Council, for burial.

Community members emphasised the need for swift action to prevent any potential health risks to residents.

A spokesperson for the Tiv community condemned the circumstances, stating, “It is tragic that a life ended unnoticed. We acted quickly to ensure the body was safely buried and to protect our community’s health.”

Police have assured the public that an investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of death and whether foul play was involved.

“We are looking into all possibilities and urge anyone with information to come forward,” an officer said.
