Police launch probe after decomposed body found at Abuja National Assembly

Must read

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation following the shocking discovery of a decomposed body inside a parked car at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

Police confirmed that the lifeless man was found in a red Peugeot 406 with registration number BWR-577 BF on Sunday, September 7, 2025, after receiving a distress call around 9:00 a.m.

“The Divisional Police Officer of the National Assembly Division responded immediately and discovered the deceased inside the vehicle,” said SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer.

“The body was evacuated to Asokoro General Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed it was in an advanced state of decomposition.”

AFRIPOST had initially reported that authorities identified the deceased as Gaddafi Iwar, a labourer who reportedly worked at a construction site within the National Assembly premises.

Investigators are now focused on uncovering how the vehicle remained undetected for several days in a high-security zone.

“The Commissioner of Police has ordered a thorough and discreet investigation into the circumstances surrounding this case,” SP Adeh added.

“All efforts are being made to establish the identity of the deceased and the exact cause of death.”

Security analysts have raised concerns over potential lapses within the National Assembly’s surveillance and access control systems.

“For a body in a parked car to go unnoticed in such a secure environment indicates serious gaps that must be addressed immediately,” said Zagazola Makama, a security expert.

Police are also liaising with local community leaders, as the body was later taken for burial in Gbawu Village, a border town between AMAC and Kuje Area Council, to prevent health hazards.

The FCT Police Command has promised to keep the public updated as the probe unfolds.

“We are leaving no stone unturned in this investigation,” the command stated, underscoring the seriousness with which the case is being handled.
