Armed bandits carried out a nighttime assault on Dakko, a rural community in Zamfara State, abducting several residents and leaving others injured.
The attack, which occurred late Sunday, has deepened fears across the North-West, a region already plagued by repeated waves of banditry and kidnappings.
According to updates shared by security analyst Bakatsine on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday morning, the gunmen invaded Dakko in the middle of the night, targeting houses on the outskirts of the settlement.
However, information from locals revealed that the criminals moved quickly, surrounding selected homes and taking hostages without resistance.
Reportedly, despite the chaos, no deaths were recorded during the raid, but multiple people were injured.
“This incident shows that no place is safe anymore,” Bakatsine warned. “Communities that were once peaceful now live under constant threat of abduction and violence.”
Residents of Dakko described a tense standoff between the attackers and local vigilantes, which eventually forced the gunmen to retreat with their captives.
A local elder, speaking anonymously for fear of reprisal, told reporters: “We are living in fear. Our families are no longer safe in their own homes. We need urgent help from the government and security forces.”
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident, and it remains unclear how many people were abducted or the extent of injuries sustained during the assault.
