Residents of Wake village in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State were thrown into mourning on Sunday after armed bandits launched a deadly attack that left eight people dead and several others wounded.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the village in the early hours, opening fire indiscriminately and abducting several villagers during the chaos.
Over 20 people were reportedly injured, with some battling for their lives in nearby hospitals.
A local youth leader, who asked not to be named for security reasons, told reporters, “It was like a nightmare.
“They came while many were asleep, shooting everywhere and taking people away. We are still trying to account for the missing.”
Counter-insurgency analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the incident, describing it as part of the growing wave of violence in Southern Kaduna.
“These attacks are persistent and targeted. Communities are becoming increasingly vulnerable as security gaps widen,” he said.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Police Command had not released an official statement on the attack.
Residents have called for urgent intervention from security agencies, warning that without swift action, more villages could come under siege.
One community elder pleaded, “We cannot continue like this. We need the government to deploy more security to protect innocent lives. Every attack weakens us and emboldens these criminals.”
AFRIPOST reports that Southern Kaduna has witnessed repeated violence over the years, often involving deadly raids, mass abductions, and destruction of property.
The latest assault reveals the region’s ongoing security crisis and the urgent need for a coordinated response to protect rural communities.
