Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has been admitted to hospital after a cycling accident left him with a fractured collarbone, the French champions confirmed late Friday.
The 54-year-old coach was injured during a bike ride earlier in the day and required emergency medical attention.
Scans revealed a broken collarbone but ruled out other major complications, according to hospital sources.
Club officials said Enrique will undergo surgery to repair the injury.
While his full recovery timeline remains uncertain, medical staff believe he will need time away from the sidelines to heal.
“Luis has always been active and passionate about cycling, and this was an unfortunate accident,” a PSG spokesperson told reporters.
“We are fully behind him and wish him a speedy and complete recovery.”
The club posted an update on its social media accounts Friday night, assuring fans that assistant coaches will oversee training sessions while Enrique recuperates.
The accident comes at a pivotal moment for PSG, with the team preparing for a heavy run of fixtures in both Ligue 1 and the UEFA Champions League.
A sports analyst said, “This is a significant blow for PSG, especially with Europe on the horizon. Leadership stability is vital at this stage of the season, so the staff will have to keep things on track until Luis returns.”
Enrique, a former Barcelona and Spain national team coach, is widely admired for his dynamic coaching style and hands-on approach.
He has previously spoken about cycling as a way to clear his mind from the intense pressures of top-flight football.
Fans across Europe have already begun sending well-wishes to the Spaniard, hoping for a swift return to the dugout.
