The Enugu State Police Command has smashed different criminal gangs and arrested six suspects linked to cases of conspiracy, robbery, fraud and cultism in separate operations across the state.
The command disclosed this in a statement on Saturday posted on X, formerly Twitter and sighted by AFRIPOST.
According to the command, items recovered from the suspects include two minibuses, a motorcycle, eleven bank ATM cards, one laptop and other incriminating exhibits.
“Between August 25 and September 4, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad arrested three suspects — John Joseph, also known as “Musa” (34), Kingsley Essien Ubong (40), and Ogbonna Kelvin (43). A Daihatsu Hijet minibus and a Kymstone motorcycle, both without registration or engine numbers, were recovered from them.
“Their arrest was based on the confession of one Chinedu Onwuka, earlier apprehended in May and currently remanded for a similar offence.”
“In another operation on September 2, at about 11:43 a.m., the squad arrested 38-year-old Sunday Ebuka Egbuaba, a suspected member of the Junior Vikings Confraternity.
“A search at his residence led to the recovery of an HP laptop allegedly stolen from a male victim.
“His arrest followed the confession of Nnaji Ifeanyi (23), a Black Axe member already being investigated for conspiracy, burglary, stealing and cultism.
On August 30, operatives attached to the Nsukka Urban Division arrested 25-year-old Friday Nwaomege after rescuing him from a mob along Enugu Road, Nsukka.
Nwaomege and his fleeing accomplices were accused of snatching an ATM card from a victim.
He sustained injuries before police intervention and was later treated and taken into custody.
Twelve ATM cards belonging to different banks and an ENTRACO-branded Daihatsu Hijet minibus, allegedly used for the operation, were also recovered.
The command said efforts are ongoing to track down fleeing gang members and recover more exhibits, adding that the suspects would be prosecuted once investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, assured residents of the command’s resolve to rid the state of criminal elements.
He urged members of the public to remain law-abiding, vigilant and continue to support the police.
