Two operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, have been arrested for allegedly stealing cocoa pods in Idanre Local Government Area.
The suspects, identified as Ajayi Adebusuyi, 45, and Oluwadare Olubodun, 42, were reportedly caught red-handed inside a cocoa farm during a routine inspection along Gbalegi Camp, Idanre.
It was gathered that the farm caretaker, Friday Abbah, had laid a trap following repeated theft incidents, which eventually led to the apprehension of the officers.
The two men were allegedly caught while harvesting cocoa pods, which were later recovered as exhibits. Residents quickly handed them over to police at the Idanre Divisional Headquarters.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the arrests followed several complaints by farm managers in the area.
According to him, investigators discovered heaps of empty cocoa pods on the farm, indicating ongoing thefts.
He added that the suspects are now in custody and that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
