Biden undergoes fresh surgery for skin cancer

Must read

Former United States President Joe Biden has undergone a surgical procedure to treat skin cancer, after images and videos emerged showing the 82-year-old with a bandage and mark on his forehead.

According to Fox News, Biden’s spokesperson confirmed that he underwent Mohs surgery, a precise technique that removes thin layers of skin to eliminate cancerous cells while preserving as much healthy tissue as possible.

The specific type of skin cancer treated was not disclosed.

The development drew attention after Biden was spotted leaving a Delaware church during the Labour Day weekend with a visible scar.

His spokesperson, Kelly Scully, explained that the procedure was carefully performed “to completely remove the cancer while minimising skin damage.”

This is not Biden’s first encounter with the disease.

In March 2023, while still president, he had a basal cell carcinoma removed from his chest.

His physician at the time, Dr Kevin O’Connor, confirmed the tissue was fully excised without need for further treatment.

In May 2025, Biden revealed he had been diagnosed with an aggressive prostate cancer that had spread to his bones.

Despite the health concerns, he has maintained optimism, reflecting on social media that “cancer touches us all… Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places.”

Biden’s family has also battled cancer. His late son, Beau Biden, died from a brain tumour, while his wife, Jill Biden, had two skin lesions removed in 2023.
