Ex-servicemen resume Abuja protest over unpaid entitlements

Must read

Discharged Nigerian soldiers on Thursday returned to the streets of Abuja in protest, demanding the immediate payment of their outstanding benefits.

The ex-soldiers, who had suspended their earlier demonstration on August 4 following assurances from officials of the Ministries of Defence and Finance, said the promises given to them had not been fulfilled.

They converged again at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory, accusing the authorities of neglect and breach of agreement.

One of the protesters, identified as Mama G, said they had no choice but to resume the protest after waiting in vain for the government to act.

“We are here because the promises made to us were never fulfilled. We had no choice but to return to the streets. This time around, the protest will be massive,” Mama G said.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Headquarters nor the Military Pension Board had issued any official reaction.
