A prominent member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has predicted a smooth path to a second term for President Bola Tinubu, declaring that “nothing can stop” his re-election bid in 2027.
Jibrin, who represents the Bebeji/Kiru Federal Constituency of Kano State under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), made the remarks during a live appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
The lawmaker, a long-time ally of Tinubu, expressed unwavering confidence in the president’s political strength.
“From where I stand, I don’t see anything capable of stopping President Tinubu from winning again in 2027,” he said.
“It’s not about party lines; I’ve had a longstanding relationship with him, and I believe he remains a formidable force.”
He also pushed back against claims that Tinubu lacks grassroots support in northern Nigeria, warning that such assumptions could backfire.
“President Tinubu is far from being isolated in the North,” Jibrin explained.
“Many of his supporters may not be loud right now, but they’re there. Anyone thinking otherwise is making a dangerous political miscalculation.”
According to Jibrin, while opposition voices exist, they do not overshadow the backing Tinubu continues to receive across the region.
He added that as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, more public endorsements would emerge.
The Kano lawmaker further dismissed suggestions that northern Nigeria has been sidelined politically under Tinubu’s leadership, noting that the region has historically held power for longer periods compared to the South.
“Our people must face the facts,” he urged. “Rather than weakening our own leaders, we should focus on engaging constructively and protecting our collective interests.”
Jibrin’s remarks highlight growing political calculations across party lines as Nigeria edges closer to the next general election, with regional influence and alliances likely to shape the race for the presidency.
