Police neutralise Ebonyi’s notorious criminal kingpin

Must read

The Ebonyi State Police Command has successfully eliminated a notorious criminal leader, Isaiah Okoronkwo, ending a long-standing threat in the Iyonu community.

Police sources confirmed that Okoronkwo, who had been a high-profile target on the Command’s wanted list, was neutralised following a targeted clearance operation by the Force’s Crack Squad.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Joshua Ukandu explained that the action was prompted by a recent spike in armed robberies and violent crimes in Ishielu Local Government Area.

“Acting on credible intelligence, our operatives launched a precise operation in the Iyonu Forest. The suspects engaged our team in a fierce gun battle, but our officers responded decisively,” Ukandu said.

During the confrontation, Okoronkwo was killed, and two AK-47 rifles were seized from the criminal’s hideout. The operation also disrupted the syndicate’s broader network in the area.

Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, praised the operatives for their bravery and meticulous intelligence work, describing the success as a major blow to organised crime in the state.

She reassured residents that the Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, pledging continued efforts to dismantle criminal groups wherever they emerge.
