Sevilla FC and Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho have officially ended their association after agreeing to terminate his contract by mutual consent, the Spanish club confirmed on Monday.
The 28-year-old forward, who joined Sevilla from Leicester City last summer on a free transfer, struggled to make a significant impact in La Liga.
Limited playing time and inconsistent form saw Iheanacho feature sparingly throughout the season.
During his stint in Spain, Iheanacho made 11 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals, but notably failed to score in nine league matches.
In January, he was loaned to English Championship side Middlesbrough, where he featured in 15 games, netting once and providing two assists.
Sevilla expressed gratitude for Iheanacho’s contributions, stating: “We have reached an agreement to terminate Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract. We thank him for his dedication and wish him success in the next chapter of his career.”
The move also helps Sevilla reduce their wage bill, as Iheanacho reportedly earned around €4 million per season.
With the contract termination, he is now a free agent and can negotiate with new clubs without a transfer fee.
Iheanacho’s professional journey began at Manchester City in 2015, before moving to Leicester City in 2017.
Over six seasons with the Foxes, he scored 35 goals in 173 appearances, claimed both the FA Cup and the Community Shield, and earned the club’s Player of the Season award during a relegation battle.
On the international stage, Iheanacho has been a key figure for Nigeria’s Super Eagles since his debut in 2015, earning over 50 caps.
He has scored vital goals in World Cup qualifiers and Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, including helping Nigeria reach the final of AFCON 2023.
