A night of terror has left the Kwami community in Gombe State reeling after suspected kidnappers attacked the area, brutally killing a well-known resident.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants struck late in the night, targeting the community in Kwami Local Government Area.
Residents who became aware of the intrusion reportedly mobilised to defend themselves, but the heavily armed gunmen, overpowered them.
The attackers captured a man identified as Adamu Commander, slit his throat, and fled the scene before security forces could respond.
“This is heartbreaking for everyone here,” a community member told reporters on Monday. “He was a respected man in Kwami, and now his wives, children, and all of us are left in deep pain and fear.”
Sources confirmed that the deceased left behind two wives and a devastated family.
The incident has triggered widespread anxiety among locals who say the level of insecurity in Gombe State is worsening despite repeated calls for government action.
Another resident lamented the continued attacks on rural areas, saying, “We feel abandoned. Communities like ours are vulnerable, and if urgent measures are not taken, no one will feel safe again.”
The killing has intensified pressure on authorities to strengthen security operations across Gombe’s rural communities, where banditry and kidnappings are increasingly threatening lives and livelihoods.
