Must read

Tragedy struck in Benue State after a 14-year-old internally displaced boy, Chagu Terhemen, died following a snake bite.

The incident occurred last Friday while the teenager was accompanying his father to the farm at Tse Kyomke Mbapupuu in Gaambe Ushin Council Ward, Gwer West Local Government Area.

One of the displaced persons, Terna Ibaah, who raised the alarm on Sunday, explained that the boy initially resisted traditional treatment and later began convulsing.

He disclosed that the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, James Iorpuu, directed that the victim be taken to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi, on Monday.

Ibaah told PUNCH that, “Benue State SEMA Boss, Mr. James Iorpuu, ordered that the boy, who was bitten by a snake, be taken to Benue State University Teaching Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, he passed away last night, September 1, 2025, at the hospital.”

He added that snake bites have become a recurring danger among displaced persons in Agagbe camps.

“From January until now, we have recorded 12 victims of snake bites among IDPs in Agagbe. Fortunately, no deaths had been reported until now,” Ibaah said.
