Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has disbanded his executive council, directing all Permanent Secretaries to immediately oversee the day-to-day operations of the various ministries.
The governor announced the move during the State Executive Council meeting on Monday, signalling the end of the current commissioners’ tenure and paving the way for a fresh line-up.
Bago cautioned the departing commissioners against seeking political favours or lobbying for reinstatement.
“There’s no need to pressure anyone about appointments,” he said firmly. “I have made my decision, and as you leave, ensure you hand over your duties to the Permanent Secretaries.”
He explained that the dissolution was part of an ongoing review of his administration’s performance, noting that the next cabinet would be formed within a short period. “In a week or two, a new team will be inaugurated,” Bago assured.
According to the governor, the decision followed a careful assessment of each commissioner’s contributions. While some officials met expectations, others, he admitted, fell short.
The restructuring is seen as a strategic move aimed at strengthening governance in Niger State as Bago prepares for the next phase of his administration’s agenda.
