The Katsina State Police Command has apprehended seven suspected armed robbers believed to be behind a series of violent crimes in the state, including phone snatching, shop break-ins, and armed attacks.
Authorities said the arrests followed a report made at the Sabon Gari Division regarding a burglary at a shop located behind the Katsina Central Market.
Items worth an undisclosed amount were reportedly stolen during the incident.
Following the tip-off, detectives traced the suspects to their hideout in Shararrar Pipe Quarters within the Katsina metropolis.
The suspects, identified as Abubakar Dayyabu (19), Abdulrahman Danjuma (25), Dahiru Nuhu (21), Muhammed Yahaya (21), Abubakar Idris (20), Bello Babale (34), and Shafi’i Lawal (20), were taken into custody.
A search at the scene led to the recovery of weapons believed to have been used in their operations.
Among the items found were two cutlasses, two long knives, two clubs, an iron rod, and a black beret.
“The arrest is part of our continuous effort to rid the state of violent criminal groups,” said DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, spokesperson for the Katsina Police Command.
“The suspects are currently in custody, and they will face prosecution once investigations are complete.”
Police have assured residents that measures are being intensified to combat criminal networks operating within the state.
