Ebonyi man beheaded over land dispute

Must read

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome killing of a middle-aged man, Dick Nnachi, who was beheaded in Oso-Edda, Edda Local Government Area of the state.

Police spokesperson, DSP Joshua Ukandu, announced the incident in a statement on Sunday.

Oso-Edda and neighbouring Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area have been locked in a protracted communal feud over land ownership, which has often led to violent clashes.

Mr Ukandu condemned the latest killing, describing it as “wicked and inhumane.”

“We are aware of the incident and our men have been deployed to the disputed area,” he said.

“An investigation is ongoing to determine the root cause and bring those responsible to justice.”

The command also assured residents that measures were being taken to restore peace and stop the crisis from escalating further.

“I remember the state governor, Francis Nwifuru, has declared the area a buffer zone.

“My advice to the warring communities is to avoid the areas that have been declared a buffer zone by security agencies and government,” Mr Ukandu added.
