Battle line drawn – Senator Marafa declares after quitting APC

Must read

Former Zamfara Central Senator, Kabir Garba Marafa, has formally parted ways with the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending a political chapter that spanned over a decade.

Marafa, who represented the district between 2011 and 2019, made his resignation public through a statement shared on social media.

He attributed his decision to what he described as deep-rooted divisions and unfair treatment within the Zamfara APC.

A post circulated on X (formerly Twitter) explained that his departure stemmed from “unresolved conflicts in the party’s state chapter and a feeling of injustice and bias against him.”

In his resignation note, the outspoken politician signalled a new political direction, declaring that the “battle line is now clearly drawn.”

He also used the opportunity to take a swipe at two political heavyweights in Zamfara, former Governor Abdul’aziz Yari and Bello Matawalle, the immediate past governor who now serves as Minister of State for Defence.

Marafa’s exit comes amid years of infighting within the Zamfara APC, a rivalry that once led to the Supreme Court nullifying the party’s 2019 election victories due to flawed primaries.

For many observers, his decision is the latest reminder of the turbulence that has plagued the ruling party in the state.

“The APC in Zamfara has struggled more with internal battles than with governance,” one political analyst remarked.

Marafa is remembered for his two-term service in the Senate, where he chaired influential petroleum committees.

His legislative record also includes pushing for the creation of the Federal University Gusau and securing a Department of Petroleum Resources office in the state capital.

With his resignation, attention now shifts to which political platform the former lawmaker will align with as the build-up to the 2027 elections continues.
