The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stressed the need for security agencies in Abuja and neighbouring states to embrace modern strategies in tackling cross-border crimes.

Wike, represented by the FCTA Head of Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, spoke during the 10th G-7 Security Summit in Abuja on Wednesday.

He warned that criminal groups are already exploiting technology to advance their activities, making it imperative for authorities to adopt more dynamic methods.

“The truth is that criminals are getting smarter and taking advantage of new technologies. Our response must be smarter, coordinated, and more advanced,” he said.

The minister called on the G-7 Technical Committee to develop practical approaches that prioritise intelligence sharing, joint operations, and synergy among states.

According to him, such measures are vital to secure not just the FCT but also the states surrounding it.

Wike also commended security agencies for their dedication, acknowledging their sacrifices and promising that the administration would continue to equip them with resources to protect lives and property.

In his remarks, FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, explained that the G-7 framework was designed to address cross-border crimes such as kidnapping, banditry, car theft, and human trafficking, which extend beyond the capital into nearby states.

“These threats don’t stop at state boundaries. They require collective vigilance, coordinated responses, and intelligence-driven operations,” Adewale said.

“He added that the summit would provide actionable recommendations to strengthen the G-7 as a unified security front.

The G-7 Security Summit brings together the FCT and six surrounding states to collaborate on strategies aimed at addressing insecurity across their borders.
